Dr. Schmitz was born and raised in Minnesota. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin: La Crosse where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She attended the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2012. While in school, she received a 2nd year clinical science award and was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.
Dr. Schmitz specializes in comprehensive eye exams for the whole family and has special interests in binocular vision disorders and pre and post cataract surgical co-management. She is also certified to fit contact lenses for myopia management therapy in children. As a child, she experienced firsthand how much eye care can improve a person’s life by having her own amblyopia (lazy eye) corrected.
Personal
Dr. Schmitz enjoys cheering on Minnesota sports teams, hiking, horseback riding and spending time with her family.
