Raindrop® Near Vision Inlay

Raindrop® Near Vision Inlay

Your vision, your eyes and your ability to live your life in comfort are a few of the things that we, at North Suburban Eye Specialists, take very seriously. Ask yourself this – when you wake up in the morning what is the first thing you do? For many, it includes grabbing your phone or newspaper to check up on the things you missed from the day before. When you do these things, do you find yourself constantly pushing and pulling your phone away from your face to see a text message? Or fumbling with your reading glasses to read the headline of a news story clearly? If so, you may suffer from farsightedness that comes with age. Luckily, we provide a long-term solution to these everyday hassles.

We are proud to offer an innovative procedure that can help patients attain optimal eyesight for up-close vision called Raindrop ® Near Vision Inlay.

What is Raindrop ® Near Vision Inlay?

The Raindrop ® Inlay is a small, clear disk that gets inserted under the cornea to help correct Presbyopia. Its composition is made up of 80% water and materials that resemble a soft contact lens called hydrogel. The inlay, which in size is comparable to that of a pinhead, is a non-painful alternative to reading glasses. The procedure is quick and easy, taking about 10 minutes to complete from start to finish.

What is Presbyopia?

As you age, you may begin to suffer from Presbyopia, a common occurrence that makes it more difficult to read things at a close range. Many people manage this problem with the use of reading glasses, but over time glasses can cause eyestrain and headaches, as well as facial discomfort.

Am I a candidate for Raindrop ® Inlay?

Your doctor will ultimately determine if you are eligible for this procedure, but here are some qualifications they may be looking for:

  • Between the ages of 41 – 65 years old
  • You can see in the distance clearly without glasses
  • You rely on readers to see things up close
  • You have relatively healthy eyes
  • You have not had LASIK or cataract surgery

What does Raindrop ® entail?

During the procedure, a small flap is made under the cornea where the inlay is placed. While it’s in its position, the inlay begins to change the curvature of the eye. The Raindrop ® is unnoticeable to others, so there will be no cosmetic differences in your appearance. The transparent disk is placed within your non-dominant eye, making your nearsighted and farsighted vision work together to create a clear image.
